A driver who police say narrowly missed hitting a child stepping off a school bus has been issued summonses for reckless driving and improperly passing a school bus.
Mariluz Diaz, 47, of Toms River, drove past the bus on the right-hand side while the red stop lights were flashing and the stop sign and safety arm were out, according to Lakewood Police Sgt. Greg Staffordsmith. The incident occurred sometime in the evening on Nov. 26.
Home surveillance video obtained by The Lakewood Scoop shows a 2012 Nissan wagon narrowly missing the young girl while passing the bus on the right.
Diaz is due in Lakewood Municipal Court in January.
